30 Days of Photoshop – Day 12

Layers – an introduction

If I had a pound for every student who told me they didn’t really ‘get’ layers, I would be quite rich by now.

Layers are still largely a mystery to so many photographers.  They are, I suspect, part of the reason why so many photographers shy away from Photoshop and use Lightroom for most of their editing.

However, understanding how layers work is a game-changer for most people.  They allow you to edit in ways that would simply be impossible otherwise… or at the very least, extremely difficult and time-consuming.

This introduction is part of NINE (yes I did say nine) separate layer tutorials.

I want you to have a firm grasp of what’s possible with layers so that you can experiment on your own photos with confidence over the next weeks and months that lie ahead.

This introduction paves the way for a lot more to follow.  Enjoy it.
